For several days, thousands of comic fanatics donning everything from X-men uniforms to Game of Thrones armor descend for Comic-Cons.
Most comic conventions, like San Diego Comic-Con International, happen annually. Whether you are attending these conventions for the first or tenth time, the following are tips to make your experience great:
1. Plan Ahead
Normally, comic events are announced a year ahead of time, with a schedule and guest updates worked out several months before the convention.
Social media platforms are a perfect way to keep you updated as Comic-Con websites might not always be current.
Similarly, physical convention programs can also be missing updated news since they are printed a month before the event.
Based on how big the event is, there can be a lot of things you may do. Research thoroughly and prioritize your must-list of the things you want to do.
2. Go with Friends
At times, it’s challenging to cosplay alone, particularly when you’re attending it for the first time. Look for some friends willing to give you company to the convention.
Whether it’s a non-cosplayer, who is there to give you a hand or a person to cosplay alongside, having some friends may alleviate your pain.
Don’t underestimate the power of a great cosplay sidekick. If you’re looking to navigate your Knights of Ren armor, apply quick fixes, get food, and manage shopping, your friends are the best bet.
3. Determine What to Carry
Convention centers are hectic places during comic events. There are basically a whole lot of booths, events, and bodies to navigate through – meaning they’re not for weaklings.
If zombies are your jam, probably you’re versed in apocalyptic survival gears. If not, the following are some of the things you may bring to a comic convention:
- Battery packs
- Sunscreen and hat
- Refillable water bottle
- A notebook and sharpie
4. Prioritize Your Safety
Before all other considerations, ensure you prioritize your own safety. Don’t lose sight of keeping yourself from discomfort and harm.
A comic convention itself is a great place, but it can also be an event in the heart of the main metropolis. So do what local law enforcers around you say, and this includes security in the event itself.
5. Know What to Dress
Since there is a lot to see and do, keep outfits simple with an appearance centered around one of your most favorite graphic tees. Although graphic tees are not a must, you may think so from the dizzying collection of them on display at a comic event. They are also a perfect way to show your love for a certain fandom.
In addition, shirts might be an excellent icebreaker when waiting in line. You can always match your tee with a comfortable denim cutoff and a pair of sandals, flat ankle boots, or sneakers.
Whether you’re a comic book geek, gamer, tech nerd, or cosplay fan, there are a lot of Comic-Con experiences to suit all interests and tastes.
If it’s your first time to attend a convention or a newbie is accompanying you to the event, be sure to consider some of these tips, if not all.
